Mars Orbiter Mission
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan, is a Mars orbiter launched into Earth orbit on 5 November 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It was successfully inserted into Mars orbit on 24 September 2014, making India the first nation to send a satellite into Mars orbit on its first attempt, and the first Asian nation to do so.
The Student Council (2013-2014) to congratulate ISRO and in their honor had put up a flex banner on 26th September, 2014. The interesting part was to provide the students sticky notes where they can pen down their thoughts and put it on the banner. Young thoughts were welcomed.
Students gave a huge response and participated by sharing their feelings on such a proud moment. By the end of the day, the banner was full with all the sticky notes filled with charismatic and intriguing messages. VIT provided a small but noteworthy acknowledgement to Indian space history of successfully placing its low-cost Mars Orbiter Mission spacecraft 'Mangalyaan' in orbit around the Red Planet in its very first attempt, catapulting the country into an elite club of three nations.
